Abstract:This type of non-destructive method NDT provides the possibility to measure residual stress and the effect of the service load with an impact device and a vibration measurement sensor.
Introduction: Internal stresses are to be considered as the following: 1) Operational strains referring to loads that the material is subject and calculated 2) Residual stresses in the material caused by heat treatments or stresses caused by welding, forging, casting, etc. The new technique is able to measure the applied load and residual stress that are balanced on the surface of the material, and in a relatively large volume, at times even the same size as the entire structures. This stress is part of the metal’s elasticity field and has a three axis spatial orientation.
Description: Elastic oscillations (also called vibrations) of an elastic material consisting of elementary masses alternately moving around their respective balance positions; these movements cause a transformation of the potential energy into kinetic energy. This phenomenon takes place due to reactions (elastic forces) that the aforementioned masses produce in opposition to elastic movements; these reactions are proportional according to Hooke’s Law to the same movements. The elastic waves that are produced propagate according to a fixed speed that depends on how rapidly the elemental masses begin to oscillate.
Elastic waves of this type are called “permanently progressive”, and they propagate at a constant speed which is absolutely independent of the speed with which the elemental masses move during the oscillating motion, and therefore also their respective oscillations. It is easy to verify that the elastic oscillations, from a material point P (in which the elemental mass m is supposedly concentrated) are harmonic. In reality, due to the fact that in any moment the elastic force that is applied to P is proportional to the distance x of the point from its position of balance 0, P acceleration (caused by the proportionality between the forces and the corresponding accelerations) is also proportional to x; this is demonstrated in the harmonic movement. The impulse creates in the metallic mass a harmonic oscillation (vibration) which is characterized by a specific frequency ω² and by a width equal to dx (movement of the relative mass). If a constant impulse is produced in the metallic material, the elastic oscillation generated in the P point will also produce a sinusoidal wave with specific width, acceleration, speed and period values. This wave is longitudinal when the direction of the vibration is equal to the P point movement, or is transversal, and in both cases the values of the results are identical; the only difference is the ¼ delay of the phase.

The system works through the accelerometer mounted with a magnetic base to generate the acceleration value of the vibrations created by the device impacting on the metal surface. The acceleration value, in combination with other parameters, permits obtaining the exact value of the residual stress or load applied in the desired point. This value will appear on the display directly in N / mm ². For non-magnetic metals, wax or gel will be used to mount the accelerometer.
The system doesn’t recognize the compressive from tensile stress.

Conclusion: Application of this type of non-destructive method NDT provides the possibility to measure residual stress and the effect of the service load in a very rapid and simple way on any point of the metallic surface.
The testing method requires smooth surfaces free of oxides, paint, lubricants and oil. Precision depends on the roughness of the surface.
This technology has demonstrated its validity over years of mechanical experimentation and has confirmed its theoretical basis.

To perform UT Crosschecks of completed welds and weld repairs in addition to welds designated by the Engineer of Record.
Carry out NDT Surveillances in all methods to ensure that there is no non–compliances arising from technicians use of the approved procedures.
Assist in training with Contractors NDE Technicians to ensure compliance to Principals specifications and ensure that technicians improve their overall competency and ability.
Work with technicians on a one to one basis on-site to improve technicians overall competency and ability.
Monitor Contractor’s NDT equipment calibration practices and applied field examination techniques and validate contractor’s reported NDT results and NDE key performance indicators.
NDE Specialist Responsibilities:
• Familiarize self with Project NDE specifications, requirements and recommended practices (i.e. API and AWS).
• Provide input on NDE methods, procedures, processes and techniques.
• Provide feedback on approval of Contractor’s NDE personnel after witnessing field performance application and identify weaknesses through monitoring and crosschecking and carry out one to one training in order to improve level of competency of Contractors NDE techs.
• Monitor the set up, application and results of Non-Destructive testing by Contractor.
• Monitor calibration of equipment, and review certification data of personnel and equipment.
• Perform routine checks to ensure NDE techniques and methods are uniform and consistent throughout all aspects in testing and verification of welded works.
• Carry out UT cross checking, RT film review, NDE Surveillances and review of NDE records produced by the Contractor.
• Assist in the location of percentage and random NDE examinations on a daily basis in the field.
• Monitor Contractor recording of NDE examinations performed and test results; including weld repairs.
• Provide input on Contractor’s Weld Maps and NDE Identification scheme field application and traceability effectiveness.
• Prepare list of outstanding NDE for inclusion in final punch list.
Qualification & Experience
• Ultrasonic Inspection – shall be qualified to a minimum of Level II by a Certification body such as PCN or by an Employers Written Practice in accordance with SNT-TC-1A (or equivalent).
• Radiographic Interpretation – shall be qualified to a minimum of Level II by a Certification body such as PCN or by an Employers Written Practice in accordance with SNT-TC-1A (or equivalent).
• A Level II qualification in or at least a sound knowledge of MPI/PT.
• Experience – should have a minimum of ten years experience in NDE associated with Offshore Oil and Gas projects.
• Be able to specialize in the detailed examination of weldments (TKY, Cruciform, T-joints, Y-joints and single and double-sided joints etc), development of relevant Procedures and Techniques, including but not limited Magnetic Particle Inspection, Liquid Penetrant Inspection, Radiographic Interpretation and Ultrasonic Inspection.
• Be familiar with defect types associated with different welding methods.
• Recognize the problems that are associated with welding in areas of high restraint (repairs) and the defects that are typical in these locations.
• Have past experience in offshore construction yards, preferably as a Clients Crosschecker.
• Past experience working on TLP/FPS or similar Semi Submersible vessels.
• A knowledge of the following codes and publications as a minimum; AWS D1.1 Structural Code, API-RP2X Recommended Practices for UT and MT and also SNTC-TC-1A and PCN qualification requirements.
• Familiar with Welding and Inspection practices, Fabrication Specifications and Fabrication sequences in order to identify any potential NDE problems that may arise from the methods applied during production.
• NDE experience working with various materials including welding to castings and the various techniques and associated defects.
• Be fluent in English language and must be a good communicator as the job entails interacting with contractor NDE personnel.
• Strong documentation skills required.
• Competent in the review of NDE Reports and records.

Abstract:This type of non-destructive method NDT provides the possibility to measure residual stress and the effect of the service load with an impact device and a vibration measurement sensor.
Introduction: Internal stresses are to be considered as the following: 1) Operational strains referring to loads that the material is subject and calculated 2) Residual stresses in the material caused by heat treatments or stresses caused by welding, forging, casting, etc. The new technique is able to measure the applied load and residual stress that are balanced on the surface of the material, and in a relatively large volume, at times even the same size as the entire structures. This stress is part of the metal’s elasticity field and has a three axis spatial orientation.
Description: Elastic oscillations (also called vibrations) of an elastic material consisting of elementary masses alternately moving around their respective balance positions; these movements cause a transformation of the potential energy into kinetic energy. This phenomenon takes place due to reactions (elastic forces) that the aforementioned masses produce in opposition to elastic movements; these reactions are proportional according to Hooke’s Law to the same movements. The elastic waves that are produced propagate according to a fixed speed that depends on how rapidly the elemental masses begin to oscillate.
Elastic waves of this type are called “permanently progressive”, and they propagate at a constant speed which is absolutely independent of the speed with which the elemental masses move during the oscillating motion, and therefore also their respective oscillations. It is easy to verify that the elastic oscillations, from a material point P (in which the elemental mass m is supposedly concentrated) are harmonic. In reality, due to the fact that in any moment the elastic force that is applied to P is proportional to the distance x of the point from its position of balance 0, P acceleration (caused by the proportionality between the forces and the corresponding accelerations) is also proportional to x; this is demonstrated in the harmonic movement. The impulse creates in the metallic mass a harmonic oscillation (vibration) which is characterized by a specific frequency ω² and by a width equal to dx (movement of the relative mass). If a constant impulse is produced in the metallic material, the elastic oscillation generated in the P point will also produce a sinusoidal wave with specific width, acceleration, speed and period values. This wave is longitudinal when the direction of the vibration is equal to the P point movement, or is transversal, and in both cases the values of the results are identical; the only difference is the ¼ delay of the phase.

The system works through the accelerometer mounted with a magnetic base to generate the acceleration value of the vibrations created by the device impacting on the metal surface. The acceleration value, in combination with other parameters, permits obtaining the exact value of the residual stress or load applied in the desired point. This value will appear on the display directly in N / mm ². For non-magnetic metals, wax or gel will be used to mount the accelerometer.
The system doesn’t recognize the compressive from tensile stress.

Conclusion: Application of this type of non-destructive method NDT provides the possibility to measure residual stress and the effect of the service load in a very rapid and simple way on any point of the metallic surface.
The testing method requires smooth surfaces free of oxides, paint, lubricants and oil. Precision depends on the roughness of the surface.
This technology has demonstrated its validity over years of mechanical experimentation and has confirmed its theoretical basis.

Job Title : FPS NDE Specialist
Team : Gumusut –Kakap Host Construction Team
Reports to : Gumusut – NDE Lead
Work Location : Johor Bahru

To perform UT Crosschecks of completed welds and weld repairs in addition to welds designated by the Engineer of Record.
Carry out NDT Surveillances in all methods to ensure that there is no non–compliances arising from technicians use of the approved procedures.
Assist in training with Contractors NDE Technicians to ensure compliance to Principals specifications and ensure that technicians improve their overall competency and ability.
Work with technicians on a one to one basis on-site to improve technicians overall competency and ability.
Monitor Contractor’s NDT equipment calibration practices and applied field examination techniques and validate contractor’s reported NDT results and NDE key performance indicators.
NDE Specialist Responsibilities:
• Familiarize self with Project NDE specifications, requirements and recommended practices (i.e. API and AWS).
• Provide input on NDE methods, procedures, processes and techniques.
• Provide feedback on approval of Contractor’s NDE personnel after witnessing field performance application and identify weaknesses through monitoring and crosschecking and carry out one to one training in order to improve level of competency of Contractors NDE techs.
• Monitor the set up, application and results of Non-Destructive testing by Contractor.
• Monitor calibration of equipment, and review certification data of personnel and equipment.
• Perform routine checks to ensure NDE techniques and methods are uniform and consistent throughout all aspects in testing and verification of welded works.
• Carry out UT cross checking, RT film review, NDE Surveillances and review of NDE records produced by the Contractor.
• Assist in the location of percentage and random NDE examinations on a daily basis in the field.
• Monitor Contractor recording of NDE examinations performed and test results; including weld repairs.
• Provide input on Contractor’s Weld Maps and NDE Identification scheme field application and traceability effectiveness.
• Prepare list of outstanding NDE for inclusion in final punch list.
Qualification & Experience
• Ultrasonic Inspection – shall be qualified to a minimum of Level II by a Certification body such as PCN or by an Employers Written Practice in accordance with SNT-TC-1A (or equivalent).
• Radiographic Interpretation – shall be qualified to a minimum of Level II by a Certification body such as PCN or by an Employers Written Practice in accordance with SNT-TC-1A (or equivalent).
• A Level II qualification in or at least a sound knowledge of MPI/PT.
• Experience – should have a minimum of ten years experience in NDE associated with Offshore Oil and Gas projects.
• Be able to specialize in the detailed examination of weldments (TKY, Cruciform, T-joints, Y-joints and single and double-sided joints etc), development of relevant Procedures and Techniques, including but not limited Magnetic Particle Inspection, Liquid Penetrant Inspection, Radiographic Interpretation and Ultrasonic Inspection.
• Be familiar with defect types associated with different welding methods.
• Recognize the problems that are associated with welding in areas of high restraint (repairs) and the defects that are typical in these locations.
• Have past experience in offshore construction yards, preferably as a Clients Crosschecker.
• Past experience working on TLP/FPS or similar Semi Submersible vessels.
• A knowledge of the following codes and publications as a minimum; AWS D1.1 Structural Code, API-RP2X Recommended Practices for UT and MT and also SNTC-TC-1A and PCN qualification requirements.
• Familiar with Welding and Inspection practices, Fabrication Specifications and Fabrication sequences in order to identify any potential NDE problems that may arise from the methods applied during production.
• NDE experience working with various materials including welding to castings and the various techniques and associated defects.
• Be fluent in English language and must be a good communicator as the job entails interacting with contractor NDE personnel.
• Strong documentation skills required.
• Competent in the review of NDE Reports and records.
• Competent computer skills in Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel Gema.ndt@gmail.com

Saya minta saran pak Novembri..saya ingin sekali mendalami dunia NDT pak,,rencananya mau ngambil sertifikasi NDT Radiografi pak, apakah saya yg bru lu2s ni bisa lngsung ngambil Radiografi pak??

Untuk ambil NDT RT bisa langsung nggak ada masalah….selain NDT lebih baika anda juga ambil WI atau WE. Kalau hanya NDT saja saat ini sudah begitu banyak yang punya qualifikasi ini sehingga nanti harganya akan murah dan persaingan ketat…
Kalau punya WI ada kemungkinan chance nya jadi lebih besar..apalagi anda dari Metalurgi yang sangat mendukung sekali untuk pekerjaan ini…saya bisa bilang pelajaran di Metalurgi dengan WI itu udah mengcover 65 s.d 70 % nya…
